The Sokoto State Government has condemned the death of former Nigerian Army Spokesman, retired Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Rabe, while in bandits’ captivity.
This is contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Sokoto by retired Col. Ahmed Usman, Special Adviser to Gov. Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto on Security Matters.
He described the incident as a painful reminder of the urgent need to intensify the fight against insecurity nationwide.
“Gen. Rabe’s death has sent shockwaves through the security community and the nation at large.
“The incident underscores the growing threat posed by criminal elements and serves as a wake-up call for all stakeholders to strengthen collaboration against banditry, kidnapping and other forms of violent crimes,” Usman said.
While expressing sorrow over the loss of the retired senior officer, Usman noted that Rabe dedicated a significant part of his life to serving Nigeria and protecting its territorial integrity.
The governor’s aide also expressed concern over the continued captivity of the late general’s wife, who was abducted alongside her husband while travelling in Katsina State.
He described the circumstances leading to Rabe’s death as heartbreaking and unacceptable, and called on security agencies and relevant authorities to do everything possible to rescue the wife of the late general.
He further urged governments at all levels to intensify efforts to ensure the freedom of all Nigerians currently held captive by criminal elements across the country.
“The tragic death of Gen. Rabe should strengthen our collective resolve to defeat banditry and secure the release of those still in captivity.
“No family should endure such pain and uncertainty,” he said.
Usman prayed for the repose of Rabe’s soul and urged communities to support security operations through timely intelligence sharing and vigilance. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
