Crime rate in the FCT has surged again as kidnappers have been let loose in the nation’s capital, invading popular estates and abducting residents.

Gunmen believed to be kidnappers, for instance, invaded the Leisure Court Estate of Lugbe, on the Airport Road, Abuja, this week abducted a mother and her two children, aged nine and ten.

A source conversant with the rescue operation, who pleaded anonymity following the sensitivity of the case, disclosed that the assailants had invaded the estate at about 10 pm on Tuesday.

He said that they received a distress call at about 1 am on Wednesday, alerting them of the incursion into the estate.

It was gathered that the residents alerted the security operatives hours after the attackers had left with the victims.

Sources said that a combined team of security operatives is currently on the trail of the criminals.

The recent cases of kidnapping in the FCT are becoming a concern, as the incidents are assuming alarming proportions and putting residents on edge.

It would be recalled that barely a week ago, kidnappers invaded the same estate and whisked away residents for ransom.

The family involved had more interest in reuniting with their abducted loved ones unhurt, and as such, resorted to paying ransom running into millions, it was learned.

Earlier on Monday, a community at Dutse Baupma in the Bwari Area Council of the FCT, witnessed a sudden hit by kidnappers where four residents were whisked away by unknown armed men.

The FCT Police Command had yet to officially react to the incident as of the time of filing this report.
