Nasarawa Assembly tasks media executives on developmental journalism

Mr Mohammed Omadefu, the Chairman, Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Information, has called on media executives to promote developmental journalism to enhance peace and progress in the society.

Omadefu (APC-Keana) gave the task on Tuesday when management of the Nasarawa Broadcasting Service (NBS) appeared before the committee on its 2022 budget performance assessment.

The lawmaker said that developmental journalism would also promote unity in the society.

He urged journalists to ensure proper management of information for development to thrive.

He said that the committee decided to invite the management of the station in order to assess the organisation’s 2022 budget performance.

“This exercise is our constitutional responsibilities aimed at promoting good governance.

“If information is wrongly managed, it will cause a lot of damage in the society,” he said.

While commending NBS for performing well in terms of revenue generation, Omadefu however advised the management of NBS to adhere strictly to budgetary provisions.

“I want to call on you to avoid over spending. You should adhere striclty to budgetary provisions at all times,” he said.

Earlier, the Executive Vice Chairman of NBS, Malam Awalu Salihu, thanked the committee for giving adequate attention to its activities.

Salihu assured of their readiness to initiate good policies and programmes that would ensure effective dissemination of information in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the oversight function had in attendance Mr Aloko Flashman, General Manager of NBS, among other management staff.
