Some chieftains of Nigeria’s main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, have returned a whooping sum of N151 million allegedly disbursed to them through their respective bank accounts by the party’s national chairman, Sen Iyorchia Ayu.
Ayu, a former Senate President, has been battling to keep his seat following the insistence of some of the party stalwarts that he must resign to pave way for a chairman from southern part of the country since the PDP presidential candidate , Atiku Abubakar is from the North, like Ayu.
A letter from a PDP chieftain, Amb. Taofeek Arapaja returning N36 million being his share of the booty, to Ayu is an eloquent prove of the sleaze in the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Apart from Arapaja’s returned booty, which he diplomatically feigned ignorance of it being paid into his account, some other members of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) made similar returns, all amounting to N151 million.
Arapaja’s letter, dated September 29 addressed to Ayu was a blow to the credibility of the leadership of the party as no one has yet to explain to the public how the party came about such huge accumulation of stashed cash to distribute among its leaders.
Periscope International recalls that last week, Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike made a damning revelation that a certain presidential candidate in Lagos whose name he withheld, had bribed Ayu with a whopping N1 billion to trade off the Party’s presidential project.
Wike also claimed that after Ayu received the N1 billion bribe, it never reflected in the accounts of the party, an indication that it was a personal gratification.
