The Plateau State Government says it will work closely with the new Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mrs Kemi Nandap, to ensure effective border security and curb criminal activities in the state.

Gov Caleb Mutfwang made this known during a courtesy visit to the new Comptroller-General in her office in Abuja.

He congratulated the CGI on her appointment, and expressed confidence that she would contribute positively to the Renewed Hope administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Governor said that Plateau, as the ‘Home of Peace and Tourism’, welcomes visitors, especially foreigners who come to invest in the state with the aim of growing the economy and improving the living standards of the people.

He, however, urged the Immigration Service to intensify its efforts and identify those who come to cause harm to the innocent citizens.

Gov Mutfwang said his administration had taken a bold step to address the problem of drug abuse in the state, adding that the Immigration Service should play a vital role to stem the tide of drug abuse in Plateau.

He called on the Immigration Service to collaborate with relevant government agencies to produce authentic, reliable and credible data that meet global standards to facilitate planning and effective implementation of government programmes.

The Governor said his administration would give the new Comptroller-General all the necessary support to provide excellent services.

He urged her to be fair to all, regardless of faith, ethnic and regional background to foster unity in diversity.

Gov Mutfwang extended his warm congratulations to Mrs Nandap, on behalf of the government and peace-loving people of Plateau State, and wished her a successful tenure.

In her response, the Comptroller-General expressed gratitude to the Governor saying she was humbled and honoured by the visit.

She said that the pleasant weather of Plateau State had attracted a lot of foreigners to the state in the past and expressed her desire to work on the state’s security to restore its lost glory.

Mrs Nandap promised to cooperate with other security agencies in Plateau to provide timely and reliable intelligence to flush out criminal elements from the state.

She added that new innovations would be introduced to enhance the nation’s security through optimal border security management.

The Governor was accompanied by Sen. Napoleon Bali, Hon. Beni Lar, Mr Yarry Kumchi, among others during the visit.
