Police arraign husband for allegedly beating his pregnant wife to death
The police on Tuesday arraigned a farmer, Ternenge Igbaade, before a Magistrates’ court in Makurdi for allegedly beating his two-month pregnant wife to death.
Igbaade was arraigned on a one-count charge of culpable homicide.
The prosecuting counsel, Insp James Ewache told the court that the case was reported by the father of the victim, Tyoapine Sule of Tse- Agberagba Konshisha LGA, Benue on Feb 22, 2023.
He alleged that the suspect out of annoyance following a quarrel beat up his wife who later bleed to death.
Ewache said that the deceased woman, whose name he gave as Kpadoo, was two months pregnant when she was killed by her spouse.
The prosecution said investigation into the matter was still ongoing and prayed the court for an adjournment.
He said the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 222 of the Penal Code of Benue State 2004.
The Magistrate, Mrs Erdoo Ter, did not take the plea of Igbaade for want of jurisdiction.
She ordered that the defendant be remanded in the Makurdi Correctional Centre.
Magistrate Ter then adjourned the case until April 19, for further mention.
