The Police Command in Gombe State has arrested a female student of Gombe State University (GSU) for allegedly throwing her day-old baby from a three-storey building.
It was gathered that the unfortunate incident occurred at the girls’ hostel on Saturday morning.
According to reports, the yet-to-be-identified student decided to end it all for the child immediately after she put to birth.
The baby was found near Hall IV of the female hostels by a passerby, who raised the alarm only to discover that the baby was already dead as a result of an injury sustained in the right leg.
An eyewitness told newsmen that the suspect has been hiding the pregnancy in her hijab gown for months to prevent her from being noticed.
The Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mohammed Abubakar, confirmed the incident, saying that the culprit had been handed to the police.
Abubakar said, “The school security has handed her over to the police.”
When contacted about the identity of the lady, the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mahid Abubakar, said the police were still gathering details.
“For now, we have yet to receive this report officially. Any further development we will be communicated please,” Abubakar said.
