A court in the United Kingdom has cleared former Nigerian Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, of all bribery charges brought against her after a lengthy trial.

The London jury found her not guilty of five counts of accepting bribes and one count of conspiracy to commit bribery.

The court rejected allegations that she received luxury benefits from oil executives in exchange for government contracts.

Two other defendants linked to the case were also acquitted.

The verdict brings an end to a high-profile legal battle that lasted more than a decade.

It also represents a significant setback for UK prosecutors who investigated the case.
