An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday remanded a 40-year-old man, Olaitan Shittu, in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling his 15-year-old daughter.
The defendant, a security guard residing at No. 2, Ishola St., Egbeda, Lagos, is standing trial on a one-count charge of defilement.
After the charge was read to the defendant, his plea was not taken.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Omolara Kushanu, thereafter ordered that he be remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
She adjourned the case until June 15 for DPP’s advice.
Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between February and March 2025 at his residence.
Ademigbuji said the defendant had lost his wife and was living with his two children.
He said the victim’s maternal grandmother visited and noticed changes in the girl’s body and, after questioning her, took the teenager to the hospital.
According to the prosecutor, the victim confided in the doctor and narrated how her father had been molesting her.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to the defendant’s arrest.
Ademigbuji said the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 137 prescribes life imprisonment for offenders. (NAN)
