Elections: Security operatives shoot dead ex-LG councilor over alleged ballot box snatching

Security operatives on Saturday shot dead Mr Ibrahim Nakuzama, a former local government councilor of Getso ward of Gwarzo local government area Kano State, over alleged ballot box snatching during the state governorship house of assembly elections.

A friend of the deceased, who confirmed the incident but preferred not to be named said he was devastated by the incident.

He said that the late Nakuzama had earlier brought refreshment for agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) at his polling unit.

According to him, it is difficult for him to believe that Nakuzama who was married to two wives and also had six children could have attempted to snatch ballot boxes.

Periscope International gathered that there were several cases of ballot destruction at various polling units in Rimin Gado Local Government Area of the state.

At least three persons, including Bashir Nasiru Aliko Koki, the Managing Director of Kano Line, were arrested by security operatives for alleged ballot snatching in Dala LGA.

The police command in the state had yet to issue any official statement on the incident and other reported cases of alleged breaches of security during the polls at the time of filing in this report.
