Mr George Azih, an old student of St Joseph’s College, Vom, Jos South Local Government of Plateau, has remodeled an hostel block at the college.

Azih, who belongs to the 1995 set of the institution and based in the U.S., explained that the gesture was aimed at giving back to his alma mater.

He said the gesture would enable students to have a conducive learning environment, adding that it would address the challenge of accommodation shortage in the college.

“This is part of my contribution to an institution that made me; without this college probably I wouldn’t be where I am today.

”So, this is basically to give back to my alma mater and make life more comfortable for students by en-suiting the hostels, making them self-contained with modern toilets and bathrooms.

”This model makes the hostels to become ‘closed compounds’ with only two entrances and very easy to secure students and monitor their movements.

”It cost me over N6 million to do this, but for me the money is secondary considering what this gesture will do toward uplifting the standard of education in this college,” he said.

Azih, who is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of LeaseQuery, an Accounting Software Company, called on other old students of the school to give back to the institution, no matter how little.

Similarly, the 1997 set of the college also constructed some relaxation spots within the school premises as part of their project marking the 25th anniversary of their graduation.

Meanwhile, Vom Old Boys Association, VOBA, the umbrella body of the old students of the institution, elected its new national officials at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Saturday.

Mr Eric Pam of the 1990 set emerged as the new president of the association, while Victor Odumodu, Daniel Bingel, both of the 1997 set, alongside Dr Basil Ghinsel of the 1999 set, emerged vice presidents I, II and III, respectively.

Other elected officials include Lucas Atukpa-Elayo, 1999 set, Secretary General, Joseph Choji, 1985, Assistant Secretary General, Ferdinand Attah, 2004, Public Relations Officer (PRO), and Job Moga, 2004, Social Secretary.

Mr Chuka Eze, of the 2003 set, was elected Treasurer, while Evaristus Tsemwan, 1995, Financial Secretary, Henry Dakogol, 1997, Yena’an Dakie, 1997 and Naanlong Salihu, 1997, were elected Auditor I, II and III, respectively.
