UniBen final year student shot dead in hostel
A final year student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) popularly known as ‘Mayor’ has been shot dead in the institution.
Mayor was shot dead at about 9 pm on Monday night in his room at Hall 3 Hostel in suspicious cult-related circumstances.
A student who pleaded anonymity said the deceased was shot in the face at point-blank range.
The student said, “He was shot in the face and had no chance to survive the attack.
“The killing of Desmond has caused panic in the school. Students are even afraid to stay in the hostel.”
Periscope International gathered that the late Mayor was a student of the Department of Public Administration a renowned Kegite (Palm wine drinkers) club chief.
It was also gathered that his remains had been deposited at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital morgue.
As of the time of filing this report, however, the university’s authorities and the police had yet to officially react to the incident.
The institution’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, could not be reached for comments as her cellphone was switched off.
