The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, Ikoyi, has apprehended a suspected fake lawyer, 55, over the alleged use of a forged seal of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Lagos.

EFCC confirmed this in a statement posted on its X handle @officialEFCC on Tuesday.

The commission stated that the suspect was apprehended on Monday, following investigations into allegations of impersonation and forgery.

“The suspect, who operates a legal and educational consultancy in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, came to the attention of the commission after he submitted a petition dated Sept 22 on behalf of his clients.

“The petition was against the management of Global West Vessel Specialist Nigeria Limited,” it stated.

EFCC said that further investigations revealed that both the petition and a subsequent letter of withdrawal dated March 5 carried a forged NBA seal.

The agency said the suspect confessed to obtaining the fake seal from an undisclosed business centre in Lagos.

“During interrogation, he claimed he obtained a law degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 2018 through evening classes but did not attend the Nigerian Law School, a mandatory requirement for legal practice in Nigeria, ” it stated.

According to EFCC, the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.(NAN)
