A former governorship aspirant in Plateau State, Hon. Sunday Garba Biggs, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, citing ongoing political realignments and personal convictions.
In a resignation letter dated Tuesday April 21 2026 and addressed to the Chairman of APC Ward II in Mangu Local Government Area Biggs said his decision takes immediate effect.
He noted that the move followed deep reflection, despite his longstanding commitment to the party.
“I write to formally tender my resignation from the APC with immediate effect,” he stated.
Biggs explained that he had been an active and committed member of the party for over four years, during which he served in various capacities.
He added that he had the privilege of contesting as a governorship aspirant in the last general election, alongside contributing to the growth and strengthening of the party’s structure in the state.
“During this period, I had the privilege of serving the party in various capacities, including offering myself as a governorship aspirant in the last general election, among other responsibilities aimed at advancing the party’s ideals,” he said.
The former aspirant, however, said recent political developments across the country influenced his decision to chart a new course.
“However, in view of the current political realignment across the country and after deep personal reflection, I have resolved to take a different path in pursuit of my political aspirations and in alignment with my convictions regarding the evolving national landscape,” he added.
Biggs did not disclose his next political platform, but political observers say his resignation may be linked to ongoing shifts ahead of future elections.
It could be recalled that less than 48 hours ago, a frontline governorship aspirant and former Commissioner in Plateau State, Hon. Jude Eli Dakur, has defected from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, reaffirming his ambition to contest the 2027 governorship election.
Dakur said his decision was driven by his resolve to provide purposeful leadership and ensure sustainable development across the state.
He disclosed this during a stakeholders’ meeting in Kerang District, his hometown, where he met with elders, youth leaders, women groups and political associates to intimate them on his defection and political plans.
Addressing the gathering Dakur said his move to the ADC was informed by the need to pursue a people-oriented vision anchored on inclusiveness, sincerity and effective governance.
He maintained that his ambition remains unwavering, stressing that his desire to serve is rooted in his commitment to restore hope, strengthen institutions and rebuild public confidence in governance.
“My ambition is rooted in the desire to bring purposeful leadership and sustainable development to Plateau State.
“We must work together to restore confidence in governance and ensure that every part of the state feels the impact of good leadership,” he said.
The governorship aspirant, popularly known as the “Captain of the Plateau Faith Project,” called for unity among the people, noting that peace, harmony and collective responsibility are critical to the progress of the state.
He urged citizens to rise above ethnic and political divisions and embrace a common vision that guarantees security, prosperity and equal opportunities for all.
